As a freshman, was one of just five players on the Gauchos to see
action in all 32 games ... Was named to the All-Big West Freshman
team after averaging 3.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game ...
Marked the fourth straight season UCSB had a player named to the
all-frosh squad ... In conference games she averaged 2.9 points and
4.2 rebounds per game ... Shot 46.3 percent overall on the season
... Reached double-figures for the first time on Dec. 13 vs. Cal
State Bakersfield with 12 points, which was a season-high ...
Recorded her first career double-double vs. Cal State Northridge on
Feb. 24 with 10 points and 12 rebounds, the latter setting a
personal best ... Made two starts on the season - Nov. 22 vs.
Loyola Marymount and Dec. 30 at Gonzaga - and averaged 7.5 points
and 6.5 rebounds in those games ... Scored at least five points on
eight occasions ... Grabbed at least four rebounds in 15 different
games ... In the first game of the Big West Tournament vs. Pacific
on March 10, she had eight points and seven rebounds ... Played a
season-high 28 minutes vs. Loyola Marymount on Nov. 22 ... Hit 62.5
percent of her free throws.
High School
A three-year varsity letterwinner at Compton's Centennial High,
Underwood averaged 19 points per game, 12 rebounds per game, three
blocks and three steals per game as a senior...Also averaged two
assists per game for coach Derrick Florence...Led the Apaches to
the Pioneer League title as a senior...Given the West Coast Sports
Medicine Scholar Athlete Award of Excellence...Scored a career-best
of 32 points against Warren High as a junior...Pulled down 17
rebounds as a sophomore vs. Wilson High...Against North Torrance
High, Underwood had four steals and three blocks, both tying
career-highs...Handed out eight assists against Hawthorne
High...Steadily increased her numbers from 12 ppg as a sophomore to
16 ppg as a junior, while averaged six rebounds and nine rebounds,
respectively in those years...Shot 80% from the free throw line as
a senior...Also competed in track and field and was a Junior
Olympic participant in 2004 and 2006.
Personal
Grovinya "Sweets" Underwood came into this world on July 7, 1991
to her parents, Corletta and Isaac Adams...Plans to major in
feminist studies at UCSB...Career aspirations are to either be a
social worker or a high school teacher...Has three siblings -
Chaneal, Neal and Gayla.
