The Gaucho Record
The UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team enters Saturday's matinee against UC Irvine with an overall record of 6-8 and a 2-1 conference mark following two straight victories. After losing their Big West Conference opener 70-57 Dec. 28 at UC Riverside, the Gauchos have turned things around, erasing a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Cal State Fullerton for the 26th consecutive meeting, 73-71 Dec. 30. Thursday, UCSB used a 22-2 run in the first half to build a commanding lead and fought off Long Beach State in the second, on the way to a 71-60 win in the Thunderdome. The two consecutive wins matches a season-high that came when the Gauchos posted a 51-49 win at Richmond Dec. 4 and followed with a 62-57 home win over Weber State three days later.
