February 3, 2010 is a nationally recognized day for girls and women to celebrate their participation in sports! The UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team wants girls ages 7-13 to celebrate this day by submitting an essay in our second annual girls youth essay contest.

The winners will be announced at halftime of the UCSB women's basketball game on Saturday, February 6, 2010 against UC Davis. All participants will be recognized at halftime and will also receive a prize.

All applicants get in free to the game and can participate in a meet and greet with the team after the game!

In the essay girls should respond to the following questions: "Why do you play sports or what do you like about sports? What do sports do for you or give to you? Lastly, how do you plan to use sports in the future?"

Entrants may submit the essay to their participating organization or if they are not affiliated with an organization can submit their essay online by clicking here. The essay must be submitted by Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. See official entry form for more details. The entry form is located at the top of this page as a PDF document.
