UCSB To Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Week at Feb. 16 Women's Basketball Game

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Athletic Department will culminate its celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Week at the Gaucho women's basketball game vs. UC Irvine on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Members of all nine UCSB women's sports team will be honored and introduced to the crowd during a special halftime ceremony in the Thunderdome. Gaucho female athletes have enjoyed tremendous success within the past year, including a 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance by the women's volleyball squad and first-ever Big West Conference championship for women's track and field. In addition, Santa Barbara's women's basketball team has captured an unprecedented 10 straight Big West regular season titles and advanced to the last nine NCAA Tournaments.

UCSB Athletics also encourages all fans share the excitement of Gaucho sports with a young girl or boy with its "Take a Kid for Free" promotion on Thursday. With every adult ticket purchased, one child (ages 13 or younger) may attend the Gaucho-Anteater game free of charge. These complementary tickets will only be available at the Thunderdome box office beginning at 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to tip-off.
