SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - On Thursday, February 12th, three members of the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team - players Emilie Johnson and Whitney Warren, and Director of Operations Araceli Gil - conducted a seminar at the Goleta Boys and Girls Club on Health and Fitness and their importance to everyday life. The program was part of the "Gauchos Give" Athletics Department initiative.
The seminar lasted for about an hour and covered topics such as diet, exercise, and sleep. The players explained how these factors affected them on the basketball court and in the classroom. About 50 children attended the event and asked several questions about the how players were able to become collegiate basketball players and what it was like to play at such a high level. The first question? Can you dunk?!
All the children who attended were given free tickets to the UCSB men's basketball game against Cal Poly on Saturday, Feb. 14 and to the women's basketball game against Cal State Northridge on Feb. 28. All the children who attend the games will receive a free UCSB basketball shirt and will also be recognized at the women's game.
After the forty minute discussion the players spent time answering one-on-one questions with children and parents, and playing around on the court.
