SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Emilie Johnson was named the Big West Player of the Week after averaging 22 points in a pair of wins last week, the conference announced on Monday.
It is the second honor in February for the junior and the third time this month a Gaucho was honored by the conference. Last week Mekia Valentine was named the Player of the Week. This is the fourth time in Johnson's career that she has been named the conference's Player of the Week.
Johnson surpassed 1,000 career points with 27 on Saturday in a 71-52 win over Cal State Northridge, becoming the 23rd member of UCSB's 1,000-point club. She hit a career-high tying seven three-pointers vs. the Matadors and the victory was the Gauchos' sixth in a row.
On Thursday Johnson led the team with 17 points, helping UCSB to a 74-70 win over Long Beach State which clinched a home court game for the team in the opening round of the Big West Tournament on Tuesday, March 8. She had seven points and three assists in the second half as UCSB overcame an eight-point deficit for the win.
For the week the Loomis, Calif. native shot 50% and 57.9% from the three-point line while averaging 2.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds. She was 11 of 19 from downtown.
UCSB finishes its regular season next Saturday at Cal Poly with a 4 pm game. The game will be aired live on AM 990 and online by clicking here with the pregame show starting at 3:30 p.m.
