SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior Lauren Pedersen was named the Big West Player of the Week after leading the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team to the Big West regular season title with two great performances to close out the conference season.
Pedersen scored a career-high 28 points on Thursday when the Gauchos defeated UC Riverside, 65-59, to gain the No. 1 seed in next week's Big West Tournament. She also had four rebounds and a game-high five assists in the win. Pedersen went 8 of 14 from the floor - setting another career-best for field goals made - and was also 10-for-12 from the free throw line.
On Saturday vs. Long Beach State Pedersen scored a game-high 15 points in just 19 minutes of play as she went 6 of 8 from the field and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. She also grabbed five rebounds in the victory.
This is Pedersen's second Player of the Week honor. She also nabbed Big West Player of the Week honors on Jan. 5. Pedersen became the first Gaucho in history to finish the regular season by leading the team in points, total rebounds, assists and steals. The Brea, Calif. native also leads the Big West with a 86.8% free throw shooting mark.
Pedersen was also named to the All-Big West First Team on Monday after averaging 12.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season and leading UCSB to a 15-1 conference mark and the top seed in next week's Big West Tournament.
