SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After leading the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team to its first win against a ranked team in over a year, Gaucho sophomore guard Jessica Wilson was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday. It is the first such honor of her career, and the first for a Santa Barbara player in 2005-06.
On Saturday, Dec. 17 against No. 24 UCLA, Wilson capped a 16-point second-half Gaucho rally with a floating layup as time expired on regulation, then tallied 11 points in overtime as UCSB recorded a 90-81 upset of the Bruins. She finished with career bests of 21 points, and a game-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double as a Gaucho, while also leading all players with four steals. The Sacramento, Calif., native played 33 minutes vs. UCLA, matching her career high.
Wilson and the Gauchos (2-6 overall) continue their five-game homestand tonight at 7:00 p.m., hosting Arizona in the Thunderdome.
