The UCSB women’s and men’s soccer programs has announced its schedule for the 2012 All Gaucho Reunion, being held the weekend of April 27-29 on the UCSB campus. Highlights of the schedule include alumni games, a reception at Santa Barbara Yacht Club and a golf tournament.
A total of 16 UC Santa Barbara student-athletes were named to the Big West Academic All-Conference teams for the fall 2011 season it was announced by the league on Friday. The women’s soccer team led the way with six honorees.
Sophomore goalkeeper Makenna Henry has been a key contributor to the UC Santa Barbara women’s soccer team from the moment she stepped on campus starting 17 games as a freshman in 2010 and 19 of 20 in 2011.
UC Santa Barbara battled UC Davis to a scoreless tie through the first half and beyond on Sunday, but in the end, the Aggies were too much as they scored two goals in the final eight minutes to post a 2-0 victory over the visiting Gauchos.
UCSB enters its Friday night game at Pacific with an overall record of 6-9-2 and a Big West record of 1-4-0. In their last game, the Gauchos snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 home win over UC Riverside.
No. 24 UC Irvine scored a goal in the 20th-minute and made it stand up, handing UC Santa Barbara its third straight loss, 1-0 at Anteater Stadium on Friday night. It was also the Gauchos’ third straight loss by a goal.
UCSB enters its Friday night Big West opener against Long Beach State with a record of 5-5-2 The Gauchos posted a 1-1 time in their last outing, a Sept. 25 game at Cal State Bakersfield and they are unbeaten in three straight. The last time UCSB played a home game on Sept. 18, it recorded a 1-0 win over Nevada.
Sophomore forward Erica Shelton (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale HS) was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week after scoring both goals in UC Santa Barbara’s matches against San Diego State and Cal State Bakersfield.
