SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Ninth-ranked Pepperdine scored a pair of first half goals and added a penalty kick in the second half en route to a 3-0 shutout win over UC Santa Barbara on Friday night at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
The Waves (7-0-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Gauchos (3-5-1) at the 14:58 mark of the first half when Michelle Manning took a ball that was deflected by a UCSB defender and drove it home from about 15 yards out in the upper-right portion of the penalty box.
Less than eight minutes later, at 22:37, Myriah Stockman made it 2-0 Pepperdine. She received a pass from Lynn Williams and blasted a shot from 20 yards out, beyond a diving Makenna Henry and into the lower left portion of the goal.
The final score came in the 59th minute. Williams took a perfect pass and went one-on-one with Henry, the Gauchos' goalkeeper. Henry slid into the ball, upended Williams and was called for a foul in the box. Manning took the penalty kick and tucked it into the left hand side of the goal to make it 3-0.
Statistically, the game was fairly even. Pepperdine attempted nine shots, five on goal, while UCSB had eight, four on frame. Waves' goalkeeper Roxanne Barker was outstanding with four saves. Erin Ortega led the Gauchos with three shots, one on goal.
