Gauchos Head South For Second Big West Weekend
The UCSB women's soccer team will travel south this weekend to play a pair of Big West Conference games.  On Friday night, the Gauchos will play at Long Beach State, which until this week, was ranked in the nation's top-25. On Sunday UCSB travels to the league's defending champion, UC Irvine, for a 1:00 p.m. match.

The Gaucho Record
UCSB will enter its Friday night conference game at Long Beach State with a record of 3-7-2.  The Gauchos opened league play last weekend, losing a 2-1 heartbreaking overtime game to UC Davis on Friday night and then tying Pacific on Sunday afternoon, 3-3.

Feder Continues To Emerge
Freshman midfielder Sara Feder was the Colorado State High School Player of the Year after her senior season at Cherry Creek High School in Denver.  In her first season at UCSB, she is emerging as one of the team's most potent offensive threats.  After scoring the Gauchos' goal in a game against nationally-ranked San Diego State two weekends ago, she scored another in their tie with Pacific on Sunday.  The goal against the Tigers tied the score in the waning minutes and helped UCSB to a 3-3 tie.  Feder has claimed the team's scoring lead with three goals and six points.  S/he is second on the team with 25 shots overall and 10 on frame.

The Offense Kicks In
Through their first five matches, UCSB had scored a total of one goal.  In fact, after Miranda Cornejo scored a goal in the second half of the season opener at Kansas, the Gauchos went scoreless for the next four matches.  In their last seven contests, however, they have turned things up a notch offensively with 11 goals, including Feder's three and two from sophomore Madison Beckley, a transfer from Ohio State. Also, UCSB has scored a season-high three goals during the seven-game stretch.

And Then There Were Two
UCSB home schedule is down to two games.  The Gauchos return home on Friday, Oct. 12 to host first-year Big West member Hawai'i in a 7:00 p.m. match at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.  They will then play their home finale on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m. against Cal State Northridge.  The game against the Matadors will also be Senior Day, albeit a short one, with UCSB slated to salute Erin Ortega and Dyanne Anderson, the only two players listed as seniors on this year's roster.
