Gauchos Battle, Drop 2-1 Decision at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara allowed two goals within a two minute span of the second half and dropped a 2-1 decision at Long Beach State on Friday night.

The Gauchos got on the board first when freshman Sara Feder scored her fourth goal of the season.  Feder tallied her score at 22:23 when she received a pass from freshman Angelisa Cortez and walloped a shot from the left side of the box into the left side of the box.

Long Beach, which has been ranked much of the year, tied the score at 60:08 when Eileen Maes received a feed from Renee Mendiola and scored from the left side, into the right part of the goal.

The 49ers scored the game-winner at 61:55 when Mendiola collected a free kick from Kelsey Wilson and headed home a shot from the far right wing.  

Long Beach State improves to 9-4-0 overall and 2-1 in the Big West.  UCSB drops to 3-8-2 overall and 0-2-1 in league games.

The Gauchos return to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 7, when the travel to UC Irvine for a 1:00 p.m. match. 

UCSB returns home on Friday, Oct. 12 to host Hawaii in a 7:00 p.m. match at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium  The Gauchos will play their final home game of the 2012 season on Sunday, Oct. 14 when they take-on Cal State Northridge at 1:00 p.m.
