SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Gauchos' community outreach program – Gauchos Give – commits 5,000 hours of service to the campus and community each year. UCSB Athletics proudly includes several cancer awareness events as part of this effort.
On Friday, October 12, the Gaucho women's soccer team will raise awareness for breast cancer research with their annual "Gauchos Kick Cancer" game. The team will wear special pink uniforms, including the Gauchos special "Go Pink" ribbon emblem, and after the match players will sign autographs.
Throughout the year Gaucho teams continue the commitment to wear pink and support the awareness for cancer research:
- Women's basketball's "Play4Kay" benefiting the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Yow, the North Carolina State coach who died in 2009, was a Hall of Fame women's basketball coach who won more than 700 games while earning fans with her decades-long fight against breast cancer. The Gauchos' 2013 Play4Kay game will be February 16 against Cal Poly.
- "Relay for Life" led by department and student-athlete leaders covering all 20-teams in the campus-wide and national event.
UCSB Athletics provides free tickets through the "Gauchos Give" outreach program for each event. To get your tickets click here or call (805) 893-UCSB (8272) to enjoy a game and help the Gauchos Go Pink.
