Gauchos Open First Three-Game Homestand
UCSB will open a three-game homestand on Friday, Sept. 6 when it welcomes former Big West rival Pacific to Harder Stadium.  The match against the Tigers, who are now in the West Coast Conference, will kick-off at 5:00 p.m. and followed by a Gaucho men's match against Gonzaga.  On Sunday, Santa Barbara will tangle with the University of Cincinnati at noon.  It will be the first match-up between the schools since the Gauchos topped the Bearcats in the Queen City (that's Cincinnati) in the first round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament.

The UCSB Record
The Gauchos will enter their match against Pacific on Friday with a record of 1-2-1 and a perfect 1-0-0 in home games.  UCSB won its home opener against Fresno State on Aug. 23 with a 2-0 victory.

1-2-1 Would Look Better If…
UCSB is off to a 1-2-1 start through four matches, but that mark would look a whole lot better if the breaks had gone a different direction.  In their 1-1 tie at Weber State, the Gauchos missed a penalty kick that would have given them a 2-1 win.  In a 4-3 loss at Southern Utah, UCSB fell behind 3-0 before roaring back with three straight goals to tie the score at 3-3 only to lose when the Thunderbirds scored a goal in the 88th minute.  Finally, on Sunday at Loyola Marymount, the Gauchos dropped a heartbreaker among heartbreakers when the Lions scored in the 110th minute to break a scoreless tie and walk away with a 1-0 win.

Right Up Her Allie
Allie Ariniello entered her senior season without having scored a goal in her first three seasons at UCSB, but she changed that in a hurry as she scored in the opener against Fresno State.  The native of Carlsbad, Calif., proved that her scoring effort against the Bulldogs wasn't a fluke when she also scored in the games at Weber State and Southern Utah, giving her a team-leading three through four matches.  Ariniello is not only scoring, she is doing so efficiently.  She has just nine shots on the season, seven on goal.

Madison's Avenue
In her first season at UCSB after transferring from Ohio State, Madison Beckley scored two goals and had one assist for five total points.  Beckley, now a junior, scored her two goals in 16 appearances.  This year she has played in four games, starting three, and already has two goals on a team-leading 12 shots, nine of which have been on frame.

McGrath Is In It For The Long Haul
Junior midfielder Kelly McGrath has started all four matches this season, but that by itself is nothing amazing and, in fact, she is just one of six players to start every match this season.  What is impressive, however, is that she has yet to leave the field and has played all 399:28.  Now, with all due respect, that's one thing if you're talking about a defender and quite another if you're talking about a midfielder.

Freshmen Of Impact
Several freshmen have logged serious playing time this season, but three have separated themselves from the pack.  Defender Sydney Fuertes has started all four matches and has been more than solid on the back line.  Midfielder Dakota Griggs has played in all four games, starting two, and leads the team with two assists.  Forward Morgan Idso has a goal and an assist and is third on the team with three points.
