RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team was ambushed on Friday night as UC Riverside scored three first half goals en route to a 3-0 win at the UCR Soccer Complex.
The Highlanders (4-10-3 overall, 1-5-0 in Big West) jumped on the board early, and often against the Gauchos (11-3-2, 2-2-1).
UCR's first goal came in the 18th minute when Blanca Barrio rebounded her own shot with a put-back unassisted, giving her team a 1-0 lead. The lead expanded to 2-0 in the 22nd minute when Blanca assisted on a score by Hailey Maxwell.
Riverside completed the early assault when Maxwell headed a pass from Blanca into the far post to make the score 3-0.
UCSB tried multiple substitutions to create a combination that could score a goal, but it was to no avail. The Gauchos finished with just 3 shots overall and 0 on goal.
The Gauchos will remain on the road to play at UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm. The match against the Anteaters will kickoff at 2:00 p.m. and will be carried on ESPN3 by clicking here.
