IRVINE, Calif. - Despite outshooting UC Irvine by a margin of 13-2, UC Santa Barbara failed to score for the second straight match and fell to the Anteaters, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
UCI (12-5-1 overall, 5-1 in Big West) scored the only goal of the match at the 18:44 mark when Alex Karlowitsch intercepted a UCSB (11-4-2, 2-3-1) pass and fed Noel Baham who scored from 10 yards out.
The teams combined for just five total shots in the first half. Both of Irvine's shots were on-frame, one was saved by Gaucho goalkeeper Brittney Rogers. Santa Barbara had a massive 10-0 advantage in second half shots, but Anteater goalkeeper Maddie Newsom stopped the only two shots on goal to hold on for the win.
UCSB will play its final home match on Thursday, Oct. 27 when it hosts UC Davis in a 7:00 p.m. match at Harder Stadium. The game will mark the final home appearance for several key players. The regular season will be complete on Sunday, Oct. 30 with a road contest at Long Beach State.
