SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior forward Amanda Ball and senior defender Sydney Fuertes were each selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Far West Region teams, it was announced Wednesday.
Ball earned Second Team All-Far West after leading UCSB in goals with 10 and points with 21. In fact, she became the first player to score 10 or more goals for the Gauchos since 2005 and she did so while playing in just 16 of the team's 19 contests. Ball was also chosen First Team All-Big West Conference following the season.
Fuertes was selected Third Team All-Far West. She was a staple in the Gauchos' starting lineup since her freshman season. In 2016, Fuertes started all 19 games for a defensive unit that allowed just 19 goals in 19 matches in 2016. She logged more minutes than any other player on the team. She was also a third team all-region choice in 2015 and, like Ball, was a First Team All-Big West selection following this season.
