SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Izzy D'Aquila took a pass near the penalty box and cruised past the UC Santa Barbara defense and pushed a shot past Hanna DeWeese and into the right side of the goal, giving Santa Clara a 1-0 lead en route to a 2-0 win over the Gauchos on Thursday night.

D'Aquilla scored her team's first goal and then repeated the effort in the 59th minute to give SCU a 2-0 lead. The second goal came off of assists from Kelsey Loera and Kelsey Turnbow.

UCSB was outshot by the Broncos 18-9, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.

The Gauchos (3-3-3) battled the Broncos (5-5-0) scoreless into the second half, but the home team cranked it up in early in the second half.

DeWeese, who was the Big West Conference Defensive Player the Week last week, had six saves for Santa Barbara.

UCSB attacked hard in the first half but had few opportunities in the second half. Shaelan Murison, this week's Big West Offensive Player of the Week and a native of Santa Clara, had six of the Gauchos' nine shots, including one on frame.

UCSB travels to Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, Sept. 29 for a 12:00 p.m. match against the Roadrunners. The Gauchos will open the Big West Conference schedule on Sunday, Oct. 6 when they host Long Beach State in a 1:00 p.m. match at Harder Stadium.
