Charles "Chugger" Adair is in his second season as an assistant coach for UC Santa Barbara women's soccer.
Adair came to UCSB following a six-year stint as Youth Soccer Coach/Assistant Director of Competitive Older Ages for the Del Mar Sharks. He also spent one year as a coach at FC Portland. Additionally, since April 2004, he has been an assistant coach and scout on the Cal-South Olympic Development staff. In 2003, he was an assistant coach with the San Diego Spirit of the WUSA. At the collegiate level, Adair spent one season as an assistant for both the men's and women's programs at Pacific University in Portland, and from 1998-2000, he as an assistant coach for the men's program at the University of San Diego.
Not only is Adair an accomplished coach, but he also has outstanding credentials as a player. He played professionally from 1993-2003, competing for such teams as the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer, as well as the San Diego Sockers, Wichita Wings, Portland Timbers, San Diego Flash, Minnesota Thunder, Seattle Sounders, Milwaukee Wave, Carolina Dynamo and A.A. Ghent (Belgium). Adair played three years (1990-92) at the University of San Diego where he was an All-American, a two-year Team Captain (1991 and 1992) and the 1992 West Coast Conference's Offensive MVP. Prior to his transfer to USD, Adair played one year at San Diego State. Following his collegiate career, he was a first round draft choice of the San Diego Sockers and the Wichita Wings.
Adair earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from USD in 1993 and his MBA from USD in 1996. He also has a United States Soccer Federation "A" Coaching License. Finally, Adair and his wife, Susan, have a daughter (Alexandria, born in 2003) and they are expecting a son in January of 2005.
