SANTTA BARBARA, Calif. - Emily Wynne scored two goals in the final 19:09 of the match to lead visiting Pepperdine to a come-from-behind 2-1 non-conference women's soccer win at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night.

An opportunistic Wynne struck for her first goal at the 70:51 mark when Amanda Rupp took a shot from about 10 yards out on the right side that was deflected to the left by a Gaucho defender. Wynne was positioned perfectly to shove the rebound just inside the left post to tie the score at 1-1.

Less than 10 minutes later, at 79:26, Rupp dribbled the ball up the field, just slightly to the right of center. She carried the ball into the penalty box and to about eight yards out, centering a pass to Wynne who was streaking down the middle. The pass was perfect and Wynne put the ball past UCSB goalkeeper Katie Wright to break the tie and give Pepperdine its final margin, 2-1.

The Gauchos got on the scoreboard first, scoring a goal at 32:01 in the first half. Freshman Kailyn Kugler took a corner kick from the right side and a Wave defender headed the ball out towards the top of the penalty box. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Stoltz was positioned perfectly for the deflection and she drove a shot through traffic and to the left of Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte.

Each team had additional first half opportunities to score. In the 15th minute, Gaucho midfielder Sami Svrcek took an outstanding pass from defender Kandice Mclaughlin and fired a shot from point blank range the right side. Stolte blocked the shot to keep the match scoreless at the time.

In the 21st minute, it was Pepperdine's turn to challenge as Sophia Medina drove in and got around a charging and diving Katie Wright. Medina seemed to have a clear path to the goal, but UCSB senior defender Katrina Wright came out of nowhere to block and clear the shot.

The loss ends thte Gauchos' two-game winning streak and drops their overall record to 5-6-2. They are 2-0 in Big West play. The Waves have now gone unbeaten in seven straight matches and they improve to 3-4-5 overall.

UCSB returns to Big West competition on Sunday, Oct. 14, when it travels to UC Irvine for a 5:00 p.m. match.
