• Purchasing Tickets Has Never Been Easier
To purchase tickets, please call (805) 893-UCSB, visit the Ticket Office located inside the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus or buy online and print at home by clicking here. The Intercollegiate Athletics Ticket Office has two parking spaces adjacent to the building and is now open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., making it easier than ever for fans to purchase tickets. The two parking spots, designated specifically for the Ticket Office, are also available during weekday hours, which are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
• Men's College Cup Tickets Now Available
Tickets for the 2010 NCAA Men's College Cup National Championship, scheduled for Meredith Field at Harder Stadium on Dec. 10 and 12, are now available. To purchase tickets, please call (805) 893-UCSB, visit the Ticket Office located inside the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus or buy online by clicking here. Students can purchase all-session passes for the discounted rate of $20.
• The Gaucho Record
UC Santa Barbara will take a 3-3-1 record into Friday's game against Weber State. After opening the year with a 3-0 record for the first time since the 1993 season, the Gauchos dropped three in a row, all away from home, before bouncing back with a tie at 13th-ranked UCLA on Sunday afternoon.
• On The Stumpf Paul Stumpf is in his 12th season as the head coach at UC Santa Barbara. He has a record of 111-89-28. His 111 wins are the most in school history. On Sept. 9, 2009 he became the school's all-time leader in coaching with as the Gauchos defeated William and Mary, 2-0. In 2009, Stumpf guided UCSB to its second straight Big West Tournament title, and second NCAA Tournament. Prior to 2008, the Gauchos had not been to the tourney since 1991. 2008 also marked the fifth time that Stumpf has guided the Gauchos to at least 10 wins. He has led the program to records of .500 or better in seven of the last 10 seasons, including, at one point, four straight seasons of 10 or more victories, the first time the program had accomplished that feat since 1988-91. In 1999, Stumpf's first season as the head coach at UCSB, he took a team that was picked to finish last in the conference, and instead posted an 8-9-1 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the Big West. Following the season, he was chosen as the Big West's Coach of the Year. On two occasions, Stumpf's UCSB teams have won the Big West regular season title.
• Austin Carr Not Needed As Gauchos End Lengthy UCLA Streak
On January 19, 1974, Austin Carr scored 46 points to lead the Notre Dame basketball team to an 89-82 win over UCLA in South Bend. The victory by the Irish ended the Bruins' record 88-game winning streak which, it must be added, began with a win over UCSB. On Sunday, the Gaucho women's soccer team turned the tables (sort of) when it tied 13th-ranked UCLA 1-1, ending the Bruins' 65-game home winning streak. The streak was the longest in the nation.
• Gauchos Return Home After Five, Make That Four, Games Away From Home
UCSB will return to Meredith Field at Harder Stadium this weekend for the first time since it played Saint Joseph's on Aug. 27. The Gauchos were supposed to play five games between that game and Sunday's game at UCLA. As it turns out, they played only four. A Sept. 10 game against Loyola Marymount, scheduled to be played at UCLA, was postponed because no officials were notified of the match and so naturally, none showed up. The game has yet to be rescheduled. UCSB will play its next two and seven of its next 10 matches at home.
• Oh Henry: Freshman Earns Honors
Freshman goalkeeper Makenna Henry, along with the defenders in front of her, was a major reason that UCSB battled to a 1-1 tie with UCLA. Henry made a career-high seven saves, including one on a penalty kick. In fact, the Bruins' only score came on their second penalty kick late in the second half. For her efforts, the Fountain Valley, Calif., native was named Big West co-Defender/Goalkeeper of the Week and she earned a spot on CollegeSoccer360.com's "Primetime Performers of the Week." Since needing just three saves in her first three games, Henry has produced 17 in the three, an average of 5.7 per match. Overall, she has a goals against average of 0.86, two shutouts and a saver percentage of .800.
• The Wait Ends For Kugler
Senior forward Kailyn Kugler was credited with the Gauchos goal in their 1-1 tie against UCLA. For Kugler, the Big West Offensive Player of the Year in 2009, it was her first goal of the season. In her career, Kugler now has 23 goals and 12 assists for 58 points. She now is tied with former Gaucho Genelle Ives for ninth in school history in goals scored. Kugler, who was recently named one of the nation's top-100 players by TopDrawerSoccer.com, leads the team with 16 shots in 2010.
• Lots Of Hard Work, Very Little Glory
UCSB has a goals against average of 1.25 through seven matches in 2010. Much of the credit for that rightfully goes to Makenna Henry. Much of the credit should also go, rightfully, to defenders Alyssa Benjamin, Alexa Stringer, Julia Speace and Kathleen Matthew. The foursome has anchored the Gauchos' defense this season and, in fact, all four played all 110 minutes in the 1-1 tie with UCLA on Sunday.
• Talk'n Gauchos Is Back!
Tune in to UCSB Athletics' weekly radio show Talk'n Gauchos, which airs every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. on AM 1290 KZSB. On Tuesday, Sept. 21, the show will feature Gaucho women's soccer coach Paul Stumpf, men's soccer coach Tim Vom Steeg and women's volleyball coach Kathy Gregory. The show is broadcast live from the Beachside Bar & Café on Goleta Beach. Fans are encouraged to attend the show for free gear and ticket giveaways and can even e-mail a question in to one of the guests and have it read live over the air. The show also airs live online via audio streaming and fans can click here to check out the entire lineup of live audio streaming online.
