Kugler Named to Soccer America Team of the Week, Big West Player of the Week

Oct. 12, 2009

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior forward Kailyn Kugler has been selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week and Big West Player of the Week after leading UC Santa Barbara to a pair of conference wins over the weekend.

On Friday night against Cal State Fullerton, Kugler broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 75th minute. The goal held up as the Gauchos dropped the Titans, 1-0.

On Saturday night, the San Clemente, Calif., native scored both goals as UCSB came back from a 1-0 second deficit to defeat UC Riveside, 3-2. Kugler scored the first goal in the 69th minute. Her second goal, the game-winner, came on a penalty kick in the 110th minute, just 52 seconds before the end of the second overtime.

Kugler has now scored a goal in three straight matches, the longest streak of her career, and it is no accident that UCSB is 3-0 over that span. She has a team-high six goals on the season.

UCSB returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 15 when it hosts Long Beach State in a Big West showdown at 5:00 p.m. at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.
