SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team will host Cal Poly in the first round of the 2008 Big West Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Harder Stadium. It will be the first Big West Tournament game ever hosted by UCSB.
The Gauchos completed the regular season on Sunday with a 4-0 win over UC Irvine. The victory secured them the No. 2 seed in the tournament and set-up the home game against the No. 3 seeded Mustangs. UCSB defeated Cal Poly in a regular season in San Luis Obispo, 4-2.
The other first round match-up in the tournament will be No. 1 seeded Long Beach State and No. 4 seeded Pacific. That game will be played Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Long Beach. The winners of the first round games will play for the Big West Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m. The title contest will be played at the home of the highest remaining seed.
Tickets for the UCSB-Cal Poly showdown are $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, $3.00 for youth and Cal Poly students. UCSB students are free.
