Gauchos Conclude Road Swing Against No. 8 UCLA

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – UCSB (1-10) completed action at the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Sunday with a pairing against No. 8 UCLA (9-0). The Gauchos suffered an 8-0 loss in six innings to the Bruins.

UCLA got out to an early lead at the bottom of the first when B.B. Bates drove home Andrea Harrison and Katie Schroeder with a base hit to right field.

An RBI single by Schroeder was followed by consecutive RBI doubles from Kellie Fox and Harrison in the second inning, stretching the Bruin lead to 5-0.

A pair of sacrifice flies sandwiched an RBI single by Schroeder in the bottom of the sixth as UCLA sealed the 8-0 win early due to the run rule.

The Gauchos tallied three hits in the loss: singles by Jessica Soria, Brooke Putich and Lauren Boser. Soria also grabbed a stolen base.

Shelby Wisdom (1-4) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in 1.2 innings of work. She walked one and struck out two. Andriana Collins closed the game and allowed three runs – one earned – on four hits. She walked two and struck out two.

Ally Carda (5-0) and Destiny Rodino combined for the Bruin shutout. The former pitched the first five innings and allowed just two hits while walking two and fanning four.
