• This Week in Gaucho Softball
With the stress of finals week dissipating, the UCSB softball team will once again take to the diamond as it plays its final four non-conference games of the season over the next several days. The Gauchos will host No. 16 UCLA on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game at Campus Diamond. The game was originally slated to be played on Sunday, but has been moved due to impending rain showers in the Santa Barbara area. UCSB will then travel to Sacramento State for a doubleheader with the Hornets on Monday. The Gauchos will round out their road swing with an evening game at Fresno State on Tuesday.

• Home Cookin'
The Gauchos have posted a 7-3 record on their home diamond this season. UCSB was in action last at their home tournament, the Gaucho Classic II. After dropping their first two games to Wisconsin and Oklahoma State, the Gauchos were able to bounce back with a pair of wins over San Jose State.

• Taking On The Best
Saturday marks the 11th game that the Gauchos will play this season against an opponent ranked in the Softball and NFCA Top-25 polls. They have played another four games against teams that were receiving votes at the time of the contest.  UCSB has gone 2-8 in contests with ranked opposition.

• Streak Snappers?
UCSB has the potential to break up both UCLA and Sacramento State's current win streaks. The Bruins have won their last seven games and Sac State will carry a nine-game streak into Monday's doubleheader.

• For The Record
UCSB carries an overall 12-19 record into this weekend's play. The Gauchos' record is nearly identical to last year's 13-18 mark 31 games into the season. UCSB went on to win 14 of its final 22 games to finish the season 27-26 overall.

Allison Taylor Named Big West Player of the Week
Senior Allison Taylor garnered her first career Big West Player of the Week honor after a standout weekend at Campus Diamond. The designated hitter led the Gauchos with a .417 batting average, .583 slugging and .417 on-base percentage. She helped the Gauchos to Sunday's sweep of San Jose State by providing the game-winning RBI and also tied the game for the Gauchos in the second game. Taylor drove in two runs in each of the games with the Spartans and also had a double in each contest. She is currently second on the team batting .295 on the season and is second with 10 RBI and four doubles. After registering just one hit in her first 11 games of the year, Taylor has gone on a recent tear, posting at least one hit in six of the last seven games. She has had an RBI in five of the last seven games as well. Her four multiple-RBI games leads the team.

• Mak City
Sophomore McKenzie Kane is currently amidst a nine-game hitting streak, which ties her longest streak from her rookie campaign. The team's batting leader is hitting .325 for the season with 14 runs scored and five stolen bases.

• Speedy Soria
Junior Jessica Soria continues to lead UCSB in hits (30), which ranks fourth among Big West players. She is also tops on the team in stolen bases, going 12-for-15 in her attempts, ranking her second in the conference. Soria leads the Gauchos with eight multiple-hit games this season and is third on the squad with her .284 batting average.

• The Lo Down on Boser
Sophomore Lauren Boser has hit her stride lately, posting hits in five of the last six games. During the last two weeks, she has batted .368 with a .526 slugging percentage. She currently is second on the squad with five doubles.

• Shelby's Strikeouts
Freshman Shelby Wisdom ranks as one of the Big West's top-two pitchers in innings pitched (106.1), batters struck out (104), batters struck out looking (35), and wins (7). The freshman has posted a 3.62 ERA and a 7-9 record. Her 104 strikeouts also rank 29th nationally among all Division I players. She has already surpassed the team strikeout leaders from the past two seasons; Andriana Collins had a team-leading 89 in 2011 and Krista Cobb had 67 in 2010.  She needs just 11 more to surpass Cobb's 2009 team-leading total.

• Turning Up the AC
Collins has split the time in the circle with Wisdom and has recorded a 5-10 record thus far with a 4.36 ERA. She has tallied 56 strikeouts, which ranks sixth in the conference. She is fifth in the Big West in innings pitched (94.2).

• The Galicinao File
Now in her fifth season at the helm of the UCSB softball program, head coach Brie Galicinao has coached the Gauchos to a 110-131 record for a .456 winning percentage, the second best since the softball program went Division I in 1982.

• Next Up: The Wild, Wild Big West
After this week's games, UCSB will open Big West Conference play next weekend at home against Long Beach State. The three-game conference-opening series will begin with a noon doubleheader against the 49ers on March 31 and conclude with a single game at noon the following day.
