SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In the second game of a three game series at Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara (19-8) poured on 12 hits en route to a 10-1 victory over Santa Clara (3-19) on Saturday morning.
Every Gaucho batter reached base at least once and they were led by Kathryn Pilpil and Jessica Reichner who had three RBI's apiece. Both were perfect from the plate with Pilpil going 2-for-2 and Reichner going 3-for-3 with two doubles. Samantha Stark scored three runs on the day after going 2-for-2 from the plate with a double. Andriana Collins struck out five batters in five innings and held the Broncos to only one hit and no runs.
UCSB didn't wait to jump out to an early lead after back-to-back singles and stolen bases by Jessica Soria and Arianna Palomares to lead of the first inning. Pilpil stepped up to the plate and singled to left to bring home Soria making it 1-0.
In the second, it was Pilpil bringing in yet another run. After a leadoff walk by Stark, Reichner then doubled and Palomares was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pilpil then drew a walk to bring in Stark to go up 2-0.
Stark would draw another leadoff walk to get things going in the fourth inning. Reichner came up and singled up the middle, then Soria would reach on a fielder's choice with Stark getting thrown out at third on the play. After Palomares came up and loaded the bases with another fielder's choice, none other then Pilpil came through yet again. She hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Reichner on the play making it 3-0 Gauchos.
UCSB wasn't done scoring and in the sixth inning, with Pilpil standing on third, Jessica Tetzlaff singled to left to bring her in to go up 7-0. After Keilani Jennings reached on an error, Stark promptly doubled to left to score Tetzlaff and Jennings making it 9-0. Stark would come around to score later in the inning on a pinch-hit single by Mariesa Davies.
Santa Clara squeezed out one run in the bottom of the sixth but that would be all they would manage to bring the final to 10-1.
Collins picked up the win for UCSB improving her record to 4-1.
