For UCSB they will be playing for the chance at their first ever title. Shelby Wisdom picked up a win in the second game of the day, giving her 63 for her career breaking the Gauchos all-time record.

UCSB Takes On Long Beach State for Big West Crown
Last weekend, UCSB pulled off a sweep at UC Riverside and tied Long Beach State for first place in the Big West with a 13-5 record. The Gauchos made it look easy against the Highlanders, as Shelby Wisdom limited them to just four runs through the series, highlighted by a 3-0 shutout in game two. Offensively, UCSB saw three of its players hit .600 or better over the weekend, as Kathryn Pilpil led the team with a .625 mark (M. Moore, Wisdom both hit .600).

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara’s battery combination of pitcher Shelby Wisdom and catcher MeShalon Moore each picked up weekly awards on Monday after a dominant 3-0 sweep at UC Riverside. Wisdom was named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Player of the Week, while Moore was selected as the Big West Field Player of the Week.

Gauchos Top Hawai'i 6-4, Clark Breaks Single Season Hits Record
UC Santa Barbara picked up their 30th win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Hawai'i in what was a historic game for freshman left fielder Kristen Clark. Coming into the game with 72 hits on the season, Clark would need four hits to pass current UCSB assistant coach Christine Ramos record of 75. Sure enough, Clark went 4-for-4 and her RBI single in the sixth inning gave her the record with hit number 76.

UCSB Returns Home to Host Hawai’i
Last week, UCSB won its third consecutive conference series and second as the road team. After UC Davis dealt the Gauchos a decisive 5-2 loss in game one, UCSB responded with consecutive wins behind two outstanding pitching performances from Shelby Wisdom. The junior allowed just two earned runs in the second game and tossed a four-hit shutout in Saturday’s rubber game. Freshman Stacy Cavazos scored the game winning run to clinch the series, as Arianna Palomares drove her in on a sacrifice fly.

DAVIS, Calif. – Arianna Palomares’s sixth inning sacrifice fly was all UC Santa Barbara needed to clinch the series victory at UC Davis. The 1-0 game featured a pitcher’s duel between Shelby Wisdom and Dana Cruse who both put in complete game efforts.

In the first game of a three game series at Big West foe UC Davis (15-25), UC Santa Barbara (26-17) was unable to produce much offensively, missing numerous scoring chances while falling 5-2. The loss ended a five game winning streak for the Gauchos, all in conference play.

UCSB Takes Five Game Winning Streak to Davis
Last week, UCSB made a jump in the conference standings after pulling off a series sweep at Cal State Northridge. Now with a 6-3 record, UCSB broke out of a three-way tie for fourth place last week and has elevated to the number two spot, as Long Beach State reamins atop the Big West at 9-0. The Gauchos have now taken four straight series victories from CSUN with two sweeps. UCSB has picked up five straight wins.

UCSB Looks to Climb Big West Standings at Northridge
Last week, UCSB wrapped up its nonconference schedule with visits to No. 3 Oregon and Oregon State. The Gauchos dropped all three contests and were dealt a 14-1 loss in their conference home opener against Cal Poly, but the team bounced back with back-to-back wins to end the weekend. In clinching the series victory over the Mustangs, UCSB looked to Shelby Wisdom in the circle who allowed Cal Poly just one run in the final two games. With a 3-3 Big West record, the Gauchos find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place with Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly.

UCSB Makes Oregon Road Swing, Hosts Cal Poly in Big West Home Opener
Last week, UCSB faced a loaded slate of road games with No. 1 UCLA and Cal State Fullerton in its Big West opening series. The Bruins downed the Gauchos convincinlgy in both games of their doubleheader as UCSB was held to a combined two runs. Against the Titans, Santa Barbara took the series opener with a 6-1 victory, but Fullerton took the series in winning the following two games. The Gauchos are now tied for fifth in the conference with Cal State Northridge.

FULLERTON, Calif. – In a game that featured 18 runs and three grand slams, UC Santa Barbara fell short in the series rubber game with Cal State Fullerton, as the Titans outpaced the Gauchos on offense with an 11-7 victory. It was the highest scoring game the Gauchos have played in this season.

In their final tournament of the season, the Gauchos finished with a 2-2 record over the weekend at the University of San Diego. UCSB swept the first day of the tournament with a pair of one-run victories against San Jose State and the Toreros. However, both teams evened the score on Sunday to put UCSB on a season-high two-game losing streak. Despite the losses, the Gauchos are still off to one of their best starts in program history at 20-8. The last time the team had as good a record through its first 28 games was in 2007, which was the last time UCSB competed in an NCAA Regional.

Despite Sunday’s games, the Gauchos are off to one of their best starts in program history at 20-8. The team had an identical record through its first 28 games of the 2007 season, which was also the last time the Gauchos competed in an NCAA Regional.

Last week, UCSB wrapped up its nonconference home schedule with the Gaucho Classic II. Santa Barbara outscored its first three opponents 27-5 and mercy ruled both Utah State and Portland State. Kathryn Pilpil led the Gauchos with both a .545 batting average and six runs. Behind her first triple of the season, Pilipil also led the team with a .909 slugging percentage.

The Gauchos downed Nevada twice and scored 15 runs against the host team over the weekend., including a season-high nine-run performance in their second meeting. Against the Red Hawks, UCSB pulled off a pair of narrow two-run victories behind great starts in the circle from Andriana Collins. Santa Barbara has now won six of its past seven games.

Oregon State Game Cancelled Due to Rain
LONG BEACH, Calif. –Heavy rains overnight have forced the cancellation of UC Santa Barbara's game with Oregon State at the Louisville Slugger Invitational. All three games scheduled to be played at the 49ers Softball Complex have been called today. Santa Barbara is still set to resume tournament play tomorrow with Louisville at 9 a.m. followed by a game against Northwestern at 11:30 a.m.

UCSB Set to Compete at Louisville Slugger Invitational
Last week, the Gauchos picked up three wins and fell only to nationally-ranked Florida State at the Unconquered Classic. UCSB’s weekend was highlighted by a 15-1 pummeling of Northern Iowa (UNI) in which it scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh. The Gauchos defeated UNI again the following day (3-2) and also opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Wichita State.The Seminoles were the only team to down UCSB in a 5-2 matchup that served as the last game of the weekend as all of Sunday’s games were called due to severe thunderstorms.

Florida A&M Game Cancelled Due to Severe Thunderstorms
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – This morning’s game scheduled between UC Santa Barbara and Florida A&M has been cancelled due to a thunderstorm. The Gauchos are currently on their way back from Florida after going 3-1 at the Unconquered Classic. At 9-4, Santa Barbara now sits atop the Big West standings with a .692 winning percentage. Next week, UCSB will stay in California and compete in the Louisville Slugger Invitational at Long Beach State.

In its first tournament away from Campus Diamond, UCSB came up with a 4-1 finish, including a pair of shutouts, at the the Fresno State Kick-Off. The Gauchos were led by Big West Pitcher of the Week Shelby Wisdom who finished the weekend with a 1.25 ERA. The Gauchos picked up two wins against CSU Bakersfield, including their 6-0 shutout of the team this season, and also downed Sacramento State and Southern Utah. UCSB’s lone loss came in the finale against Fresno State who won 6-5 in eight innings.

In the second day of the Gaucho Classic, UC Santa Barbara (1-2) fell in their rematch with Texas A&M (4-0) by a score of 8-0. The Aggies talented offense continued to produce at an extraordinary rate, averaging just over 10 runs per game for the young season. The game ended after 6 innings as a result of the mercy rule.

Gaucho Classic I to Feature No. 11 Texas A&M, Dayton, CSU Bakersfield
The Gauchos finished the 2013 season witha 31-24 record, which marks their second 30-plus win season in a row. The team finished fourth in the Big West standings behind Hawai’i (1), Long Beach State (2), and Cal State Fullerton (3). Five Gauchos were named to the all-conference team, as Jessica Soria and Shelby Wisdom made the second-team while Lauren Boser, Keilani Jennings, and Alex Pingree were honorable mentions. Jennings finished last season as UCSB’s all-time home runs leader with 31.
