Week in Review
Last week, the Gauchos picked up three wins and fell only to nationally-ranked Florida State at the Unconquered Classic. UCSB's weekend was highlighted by a 15-1 pummeling of Northern Iowa (UNI) in which it scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh. The Gauchos defeated UNI again the following day (3-2) and also opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Wichita State. The Seminoles were the only team to down UCSB in a 5-2 matchup that served as the last game of the weekend as all of Sunday's games were called due to severe thunderstorms.

What Sophomore Slump?
Arianna Palomares has started her sophomore campaign as the top hitter in the Big West. She currently paces the league with both a .477 batting average and 21 hits. She is second in the conference with a .547 on-base percentage, the only UCSB starter over .500. She is following up her freshman year in which she finished with a .307 BA and 50 hits (both second on the team).

Triples Threat
The Gauchos have shown a knack for triples this season, having already racked up a league leading seven. Leadoff hitter Kristen Clark has the most on the club with three, while she is followed by Lauren Boser, Emily Brucelas, Palomares, and Shleby Wisdom who have one each. Clark is just one of three Big West players to have more than one triple this season.

Best in the West
Now three weeks into the season, the Gauchos own the top winning percentage in the Big West with a 9-4 record. That places them atop the conference standings, although Cal State Fullerton owns the league's most wins with 11. Long Beach State and Hawai'i are the only other teams that have a record over .500.

Santa Barbara Swipers
The Gauchos are third in the league with 15 stolen bases, primarily thanks to their two freshman outfielders. Kristen Clark (8) ranks second in the Big West in swipes, while Stacy Cavazos (6) is tied for third. UCSB is the only program to have as many players among the conference's top-five in that category. Santa Barbara is the lone Big West team that has yet to be caught stealing. The Gauchos piled on their stats at the Fresno State Kick-off with 11 steals, 10 coming from the freshman duo. While Clark had at least one swipe in every game, Cavazos picked up three in the tournament finale against Fresno State.

Power Play
The Gauchos made program history in its 15-1 triumph over Northern Iowa last weekend. In addition to scoring the most runs in the Galicinao era, the run total was also the most the team has scored since Mar. 1, 1997 when the team blanked Akron 16-0. What's most impressive about the game was that UCSB scored 10 of its runs in the seventh inning during a two-out rally. The Gauchos loaded the bases early, but it was four fielding errors from the Panthers that led to the runs in the high scoring inning. MeShalon Moore capped off the inning with an RBI double to left center.

Pitch Perfect
Santa Barbara's record has much to do with its superb performances from its pitchers. In the league, Shelby Wisdom's 2.39 ERA is second only to Cal State Fullerton's Desiree Ybarra's microscopic 0.61 mark. Behind her, Alex Pingree owns a perfect 3-0 record after allowing an average of 2.88 earned runs. Overall, Santa Barbara leads the Big West be holding its opponents to just 2.76 earned runs. UCSB is the only Big West club with an ERA lower than 3.00

At the Plate
UCSB has been one of the top offensive teams this season with a collective .299 batting average (second in league) and a .411 slugging percentage (third). With Palomares leading with a .457 BA, five Gauchos are batting over .300 this season, while four batters are slugging over .550 with Stacy Cavazos pacing the club with a .571 mark.

E for Efficiency
In the field, the Gauchos have committed the fewest errors in the Big West with 11. Five of UCSB's starting nine, with Wisdom as the pitcher, have still yet to committ an error this season. The only other team to hold that distinction is Cal Poly.
