Week in Review
Last week, UCSB faced a loaded slate of road games with No. 1 UCLA and Cal State Fullerton in its Big West opening series. The Bruins downed the Gauchos convincinlgy in both games of their doubleheader as UCSB was held to a combined two runs. Against the Titans, Santa Barbara took the series opener with a 6-1 victory, but Fullerton took the series in winning the following two games. The Gauchos are now tied for fifth in the conference with Cal State Northridge.

Wiz Kid
Last Friday, Shelby Wisdom led UCSB to victory over Cal State Fullerton with a strong all-around performance. With the bat, Wisdom collected a team-high three RBI in going 2-for-4. Her first hit was an RBI double smoked to right center. She followed the two-base knock with a two-run shot in the seventh inning to put Fullerton out of reach at 5-1. Wisdom pitched a complete game against the Titans and allowed only one earned run and three hits while striking out four batters.  After Fullerton scored on an RBI double in the first, Wisdom limited the team to just one hit.

Grand Slamorama
In Sunday's loss at Fullerton, UCSB took part in a game that featured three grand slams and 18 runs. With her first career grand slam, Stacy Cavazos hit the first one to give her team a then 6-1 lead.

Slapping Them Silly
Kristen Clark has emerged as one of the Big West's top hitters after a strong start to her freshman campaign. She leads the league with a .443 batting average and 54 hits. Most of her hits are singles, but she is also tied for second in the conference with four triples. The freshman's hit total makes up 21 percent of all UCSB's hits this season. The closest Gaucho to that mark is Kathryn Pilpil whose 29 knocks make up nearly 11 percent of the team's hits.

Battery Powered
Pitcher Shelby Wisdom and catcher MeShalon Moore have been the most common batterymates this year for the Gauchos and they have also brought some power to the team's lineup. Moore, who primarily bats cleanup, currently leads the team with eight doubles, which is also tied for the conference lead. Typically batting third, Wisdom is tied for the team lead with 20 RBI and is second with three home runs.

Fantastic Freshman
The Gauchos have looked young this season as three true freshman (Brucelas, Cavazos, and Clark) have secured starting roles. Brucelas and Cavazos are tied for the most home runs on the club (4) along with Boser. Clark tops UCSB with a .557 slugging percentage.

DeJanee Moore Returns
After suffering an injury on opening day, DeJanee Moore returned to the Gaucho lineup in the Cal State Fullerton series. In her first appearance in nearly two months, she drew a walk as pinch hitter in the first game. After sitting out game two, Moore made her first start since Feb. 7 on Sunday where she played right field and collected her first hits of the season by going 2-for-3, including an RBI double. She entered the game with just one official at-bat on the year.

Santa Barbara Swipers
The Gauchos are third in the league with 36 stolen bases, primarily thanks to their two freshman outfielders. Kristen Clark (22) ranks second in the Big West in swipes, while Stacy Cavazos (9) is sixth. UCSB players have only been caught stealing seven times this season out of 43 attempts which equals an 84 percent success rate.

Triples Threat
UCSB has shown a knack for triples this season, having already racked up a league leading 10. Aside from Kristen Clark's club-leading four triples, six other Gauchos have all also recorded one each. Trailing UCSB in the conference is Cal State Fullerton with nine triples, while Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State have eight and seven, respectively.

Pitch Perfect
Santa Barbara's record has much to do with superb performances from its pitchers. Shelby Wisdom leads the team with a 3.13 ERA to go along with nine wins. Now in her senior campaign, Andriana Collins has compiled an impressive 7-4 record which is the best start she has had since her freshman year when she finished 12-12. Alex Pingree has a 5-0 record after clocking in the second-most innings pitched on the staff (47.0) and has only allowed 25 earned runs.

At the Plate
UCSB has been one of the top offensive teams this season with a collective .293 batting average (second in league) and a .419 slugging percentage (fourth). With Kristen Clark leading with a .443 BA, two Gaucho starters are batting over .400 this season. Clark and Emily Brucelas are both slugging over .500 this season in reaching marks of .557 and .500, respectively.
