UC SANTA BARBARA
2010: Played and started in 25 games during her sophomore
campaign...Posted a .207 batting average, but was third on the team
hitting .267 during Big West play...Recorded 12 hits, four runs,
two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two walks...Posted a pair of
hits on four occasions...Hit a two-run homer in a 5-2 victory over
Long Beach State (May 1)...Also had a 2-for-4 showing in the third
game of that same series, which the Gauchos swept...Went 2-for-3
with a run scored in the final two contests of the season, both at
UC Davis (May 14 and 15)...Posted a perfect 1.000 fielding
percentage.
2009: Started all 51 games during her freshman year, the only 2009 rookie to do so...Was third on the team, batting .291 on the season...Was third on the squad with 46 hits and 28 RBI and was second with 10 doubles...Her four home runs were tied for second on the team...Posted 21 runs...Tied for seventh in the Big West in doubles (10) and first in sac flies (3)...In conference play, she was tied seventh in hits (21) among league leaders...During the second game of the season against Wichita State, she went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI...Had 12 multiple-hit performances during the season...Had a season-high three hits against Texas Tech (Mar. 6)...In addition to her three RBI against Wichita State, she also batted in a trio of runners against Cal State Bakersfield (Feb. 28) and UC Davis (May 3)...Longest hitting streak lasted seven games (Feb. 22 thru Mar. 7) and she also recorded nine RBI during that span.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played for Westview High School under head coach Kelly Warner
...Was a four-year varsity player that posted a .376 overall
batting average and hit .484 during Palomar League play...Named the
2007 and 2008 Westview High School Female Athlete of the Year...In
2006 she earned Westview's Super-Wolverine Awards for combined
academic and athletic achievement...Was a four-time All-Palomar
League selection...As a senior, she helped lead the Wolverines to a
third-place league finish and the CIF Division II semifinals...In
2008, she earned All-CIF, All-San Diego North County and Coaches
Award honors...Twice earned Union Tribune All-Academic Team
honors...Also earned Union Tribune and North County Times Player of
the Week honors during her prep career...Was named Best Defensive
Player as a junior...Also a standout athlete in field hockey and
soccer earning All-Palomar League, All-CIF, All-San Diego Section
and All-San Diego North County honors in both sports...Was a
four-year member of the honor roll and earned Union Tribune
All-Academic Team honors for softball, soccer and field
hockey...Also earned a Girl Scout Silver Award.
TRAVEL BALL
Played travel ball for five seasons with San Diego
Renegades...Helped the 18U Gold team to a ninth-place finish at the
2007 ASA Gold Nationals and a 17th place finish in 2006...Placed
ninth at the ASA Nationals at both the 14U and 16U levels...Also
competed with So Cal Lightning and PQ Lightning All-Stars, with
which she won back-to-back Southern California State championships
as a 12U and the ASA Western National championship as a 10U.
PERSONAL
Amanda Lorraine Ziegler was born on Mar. 3, 1990 in Newport Beach,
Calif....Parents are Tina and John Ziegler, both UCSB
graduates...Older sister Jessica also plays softball for UCSB...Has
a brother named Zachary...Is majoring in communication at UCSB with
a minor in studio art...Would like to someday pursue a career in
the fashion industry, hopefully as a designer...If she wasn't
playing softball, she would play soccer or field hockey...Roots for
the San Diego Chargers and Padres and the USC football team...Her
most memorable sports moment was winning CIF for the fourth and
last time as a senior in soccer...Obviously a Will Ferrell fan as
she lists "Stepbrothers", "Blades of Glory" and "Talladega Nights:
The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" as some of her favorite movies...Enjoys
reading the "Twilight" series as well as "The Notebook" and "The
Great Gatsby"...Loves to paint and sketch...Says that her favorite
aspect of Santa Barbara is the overall friendly, low-key beach life
atmosphere...Superstitions include wearing pink bows and
spandex.
