SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Jessica Hejna went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI, Kendra Singley finished 3-for-4 and drove in two and Jennifer Davis notched her second victory in as many days as UC Santa Barbara defeated Massachusetts 10-1 in five innings.

UCSB improves to 2-0 on the young season with the victory, while UMASS falls to 0-1

After defeating Sacramento State 3-2 in eight innings in the San Diego State Campbell/Cartier Tournament opener, the Gauchos wasted no time in their second game Friday, scoring a run in the first inning when freshman first baseman Tiffany Wright singled, driving in Hejna from second.

Santa Barbara then tallied four runs in the decisive second inning to take a 5-0 lead. After junior designated player Liz Walters doubled and scored on an error, Hejna hit a two out, two RBI triple with runners on first and second. The next batter, Singley, singled to third base, scoring Hejna.

The Minutewomen scored their only run of the game in bottom of the second inning when first baseman Amanda Morin scored on an error.

After a scoreless third inning, the Gauchos tacked on three more in the fourth. UMASS pitcher Brandice Balschmiter started the inning with walks to Ericka Hansen and Christine Ramos, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Hejna again stepped up to the plate with two runners on and doubled to left center, scoring Hansen and Ramos. Singley then brought Hejna in with a single for the second time in the game.

UCSB added two more runs in the top of the fifth and Davis struck out the side in the bottom half to wrap up the mercy rule victory.

Davis, who earned the victory in Thursday's win over the Hornets, pitched a complete five innings and allowed one run on four hits in the win. She struck out seven and walked two and improves to 2-0 on the year.

Jenna Busa, who pitched 1.2 innings and gave up five runs on five hits, took the loss for the Minutewomen.

Next up for the Gauchos is No. 2 UCLA Friday at 1:00 p.m. as the Campbell/Cartier Tournament continues.
