UCSB Takes Down UC Davis 1-0 In Ten Innings

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior third basemen Tisha Duran's RBI double led the UC Santa Barbara softball team to a 1-0 victory over future Big West Conference foe UC Davis in a marathon 10-inning game on Sunday at Campus Diamond. With the win, the Gauchos captured the series against the Aggies after splitting a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Gaucho record now stands at 23-15 overall and 13-5 at home. The Aggies fall to 25-16-1 on the season.

Senior Jennifer Davis captured the win after throwing her fourth complete game shutout of the season. Davis, who is now 7-10 on the year, allowed only four hits, walked one and struck out seven batters. The Whittier, Calif. native also reached the No. 2 spot on the Big West all-time career strikeouts list during the game and now has 766 strikeouts under her belt. Just 32-fanned batters stand between Davis and the conference record of 798.

Duran led the Gauchos at the plate going 2-for-5 with a triple and the game-winning RBI double. Junior catcher Ericka Hansen was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a sacrifice bunt.

For the Aggies, Lindsey Tognetti took the loss after pitching a complete 10 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking four and striking out six. At the plate four Aggies had hits including Trish Paine who was 1-for3 and earned the only walk for UC Davis during the game.

At the bottom of the tenth inning, with the game deadlocked at 0-0, the Gauchos returned to the top of their order and sophomore leadoff hitter Christine Ramos singled on a bunt. A sac bunt from senior Jessica Hejna advanced Ramos to scoring position at second. On the next play, Duran hit her double to right centerfield driving Ramos home and giving UCSB the 1-0 win.

Today's game marked the Gauchos' 12th shutout win during this season and their sixth extra inning game.

The Gauchos will resume Big West Conference play next weekend when they host Cal State Northridge in a three-game series. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 scheduled to start at noon and will conclude with a single game on Sunday at noon.
