April 25, 2010
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - For the second time during this weekend's three-game Big West series, Cal State Northridge (24-20, 8-4) used a seventh-inning rally to defeat UC Santa Barbara (10-33, 1-11) at Matador Diamond. The 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon completed the series sweep for the Matadors.
With the game tied at one apiece in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jaci Carlsen hit a two-out single up the middle to drive Lauren Olivas home for the game-winning run.
The Matadors had gotten on the scoreboard first at the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Alex Alvarado gave Northridge the early lead when she blasted a 2-1 pitch deep over the left center field fence to put the Matadors up, 1-0.
CSUN held onto its lead until the top of the seventh when UCSB's Keilani Jennings tied the game with a solo home run to left center field.
In the circle for the Matadors, Hannah Fraijo (15-6) tossed the complete game and allowed just one run on two hits. She walked two and struck out two.
Krista Cobb (3-11) took the hard loss after limiting CSUN to just two runs on five hits. She walked four and fanned three. Amanda Ziegler accounted for the Gauchos' first hit of the game, a double down the right field line at the top of the third inning.
The Gauchos will return to Campus Diamond next weekend to host Long Beach State in a three-game conference series. The series will kick off with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, May 1.
