SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Freshman pitcher Krista Cobb threw a complete game two-hitter on Sunday afternoon, helping guide UC Santa Barbara (23-22, 6-9) to a 5-0 shut out of Big West foe Pacific (17-29, 2-13) at the Tigers' Bill Simoni Field.

The Gauchos got on the scoreboard at the top of the third inning when Tiffany Wright hit an RBI single to the shortstop sending Jackie Conlin home. Amanda Ziegler then hit a single to left field and during the same play Wright was able to score on an error by the left fielder, putting the Gauchos ahead, 2-0.

At the top of the sixth, Jessica Beristianos walked with one out. During the next play, the Tigers committed two errors, allowing Kelsey Anderson to reach first base and Beristianos to come home for the second unearned run of the game.

In the seventh, Wright hit her second two-run homer of the weekend over the left field fence to give the Gauchos a 5-0 advantage.

Cobb allowed a one-out single in the bottom of the inning - just the second Tiger hit of the game - before striking out the final two batters swinging to lock-up the win for the Gauchos.

At the plate, Jessica Ziegler was phenomenal, going 3-for-3 with a run. Wright went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Christine Ramos and Katie McWhirter each had two hits apiece.

Cobb pitched all seven innings and allowed just two hits. She walked three and struck out seven. The win improved her record to 16-8, tying her with Jennifer Davis (2004-07) as the winningest freshman pitcher in UCSB history.

Gabby McDaniel (3-10) took the loss after pitching six innings and allowing three runs ¬- one earned - on eight hits. She walked two and struck out six. Chelsea Engle closed the game and allowed two runs on two hits while walking one.

The Gauchos will return to Campus Diamond next weekend for a three-game series with UC Davis. The conference set will begin with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, May 2 and will conclude with a single game on Sunday.
