SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara pitcher Krista Cobb piloted the Gauchos to several key wins over the course of last week, netting UCSBgauchos.com Athlete of the Week honors.
Cobb started her week with a bang, allowing just six hits and two runs in UCSB's 7-2 win over #5/4 UCLA. She also picked up a non-conference win over Santa Clara after allowing just two hits and no runs in the 6-0 triumph.
The freshman then started game one against UC Riverside in both clubs' Big West opener, a 4-1 UCSB win. Cobb allowed just one earned run, four hits and struck out a career-high tying nine batters in the victory. All told in the conference series, she allowed just two earned runs and nine hits.
For the week, Cobb went 4-1 with a 1.09 ERA in 26.2 innings. She allowed 10 runs (four earned) and struck out 23 against 10 walks.
For her performance over the week, she was also named Big West Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. This is her second UCSBgauchos.com Athlete of the Week honor. She earned her first after pitching the program's first perfect game against Wagner on Feb. 7.
