SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – For the second time in three weeks, sophomore swimmer Sophia Yamauchi was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's Female Athlete of the Week it was announced today by the conference.
Across UCSB's two dual meets last weekend, Yamauchi won five individual events. She began the week with victories in the 100 backstroke (56.91), 100 butterfly (56.19) and the 200 medley relay (1:48.13) during Friday's home meet against UC San Diego.
On Saturday at Cal Poly, she was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.01), 200 breast (2:17.71) and the 400 individual medley (4:27.46). She also swam the breaststroke leg in the second-place 200 medley relay, which finished in 1:46.98.
The sophomore owns the top MPSF times this season in the 100 breast (1:03.51), 200 breast (2:16.63) and 200 IM (2;02.69); the second best time in the 100 fly (56.19), 400 IM (4:27.46) and 200 back (2:03.22); and the third fastest time in the 100 back (56.91).
UCSB will be back in action at the Arena Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. The meet will run Nov. 17-19.
