FRESNO, Calif - The UCSB women's swimming and diving team squared off against UC Davis on Saturday afternoon in Fresno with the Gauchos falling to the Aggies 180-120.
UCSB won the next two consecutive events to keep up its hot start. Heren Alanis took first in the 1000 freestyle in 10:23.85 while Sophia Yamauchi, posting her season-best time, came out on top in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.13.
A few events later, Ward dominated the 200 butterfly winning by more than three seconds with a time of 2:03.76. Her time would be her season-best in the event, marking the fourth Gaucho to record a season-best time in the meet.
After that victory, the Gauchos hit a dry spell and UC Davis came roaring back to take the lead.
Ward and Emma Hunt were able to finish one-two in the 100 butterfly. Ward's time of 56.18 is a Fresno State Aquatics Center pool record. Hunt came in second with a time of 57.65.
Yamauchi posted her second victory on the day immediately after in the 200 IM (2:05.07).
In diving, Quetzal Moreno scored the highest score for the Gauchos, and also her season-best, in the three-meter with a score of 232.55. On the one-meter board, Tripti Singhal marked her season-best score of 225.85 which was tops for UCSB on the day.
UCSB returns home to Campus Pool to take on Loyola Marymount and Pacific in a dual-meet on Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.
