UCSB Takes 2/3 in Quad Meet at UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UCSB women's swimming team earned two victories over Oregon State and Florida Gulf Coast, while falling to host UCLA in a quad meet at Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday.  The Gauchos were led by reigning MPSF/ Turbo Female Athlete of the Week Senior Andrea Ward, who came in first place in the 100 (54.09) & 200 (1:59.61) yard butterfly events.

Junior Katie Records recorded a 1st place victory in the 100 yard breaststoke (1:04.05) and 200 yard breaststoke (2:17.10). Carissa Metcalf came in a tie for 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:04.45.

The Gauchos finished in 2nd place in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:35.58).  Falling within two seconds of victory was the team of Ward, Metcalf, Sophia Yamauchi, and Meghan Bicomong.

Yamauchi was the top Gaucho finisher in the 50 yard freestyle with a 4th place finish and time of 24.00. Senior Allie Knight came in 5th place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.17.

In the 200 yard individual medley, junior Heren Alanis came in 4th place with a time of 2:09.18 and freshman Jiana Vargem was right behind in 6th place with a time of 2:09.74.

Monika Terry led the way in women's diving with final scores of 213.05 and 232.55 in 1 meter and 3 meter diving, respectively.

The Gauchos are home to take on UC San Diego at 11am on Saturday, November 9.
