Gauchos Drop First Dual Meet of the Season at UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's swim team (0-1) was defeated by Pac-12 opponent UCLA on Friday afternoon by a score of 162-100 at Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bruins provided a tough matchup in what was Santa Barbara's first dual meet of the season, winning 12 of the 14 events.

Despite the loss, the Gauchos had a well-rounded effort. There were several races in which they finished in most of the top spots besides first. In the 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 IM, and 400 Free Relay, the second through fifth place finishers were all Gauchos. Additionally, Santa Barbara took three of the top five spots in the 200 Fly and 200 Back, as well as second and third place in the 200 Medley Relay (1:44.15 and 1:45.62).

Zoe Cosgrove had another impressive performance, collecting two more first-place victories after winning four events at CSU Bakersfield last weekend. The freshman was the only Gaucho to win an event, winning the 100 and 200 Back with times of 54.44 and 1:58.70.

Redshirt Junior Emily Boggess finished second in both the 500 and 1000 Free (4:55.48 and 10:10.72), as well as third in the 100 Free (51.44).

Senior Emily Ward added a second-place finish in the 200 Free (1:51.21) and a fourth-place finish in the 100 Free (51.84).

Molly McCance, Brittney Straw, and Jacqueline Harris also had second-place finishes, McCance in the 200 Fly (2:04.72), Straw in the 200 Breast (2:22.26), and Harris in the 100 Fly (56.64).
