FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Senior Anne Marie May finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday evening at the 2009 AT&T Short Course National Championships at the Weyerhaueser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington. May's time of 22.52 is a "B" qualifying time for the 2010 NCAA Championships.
Earlier in the day, May placed fourth in the 50 free preliminaries with a time of 22.69. Her finals time is a season-best for the senior.
Also swimming at the meet is freshman Tim Freeman who placed 46th in the 200 individual medley prelims with a time of 1:52.82, which is the second fastest time by a Big West swimmer this season.
Recent UCSB graduates Jeff Sudbury and Katy Freeman are also competing in Federal Way this week. Sudbury shaved .30 seconds off of his prelim time in the 50 free to finish 10th overall with a time of 20.21.
Freeman, like her younger brother, swam the 200 IM. She posted a time of 2:02.20, placing 47th in the prelims.
"It was a really good night, the kids are doing well," said head swim coach Gregg Wilson after Thursday's finals.
Both Freeman's, May and Sudbury will continue action at the Short Course National Championships on Friday when they all take-on the 100 breaststroke.
