UCSB Dominates at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - UCSB took home the team win at the University of Las Vegas Invitational scoring a total of 993 points after three days of competition. Jen Schwalb won four individual events and the 200 free relay team broke the school record and took first helping the Gauchos hold back UNLV.
The women's 200 free relay team broke the 1988 school record of 1:33.29 held by Fuller, Dougherty, Brannon and Bryson. The new UCSB record is 1:32.95. UCSB also won the 400 free relay (3:25.48) and the 400 medley relay (3:49.93).
Senior Jen Schwalb had a very good meet winning four events. The 200 IM (2:04.19), 400 IM (4:21.40), 100 fly (55.34) and the 200 fly (2:01.35). Teammate Erin Yamamoto touched in just behind Schwalb to take second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.66.
Other winning swims of the meet include newcomer Anne Marie May wins in the 50 free (23.29) and 100 free (51.90), Katy Freeman's win in the 100 breast (1:04.64) and Jamie Lathers win the 100 back (57.61). Nadia Dwidar was touched out by teammate May in the 100 free by a few hundredths of a second, Dwidar's time was 51.98.
The Gauchos will enjoy a holiday break from classes and will be training for their next competition, a home meet against USC on January 6, 2007.
