May Earns Big West Athlete of the Week

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior Anne Marie May earned the first Big West Female Swimmer of the Week award of 2010 and her second of the season after her standout performances against USC two weeks ago, it was announced by the conference this week.

May, a native of Carmel, Calif., put up several excellent performances during the Jan. 9 dual meet against USC. The senior had two individual first-place finishes against the Trojans, beating out her competition in the 50 free (23.59) and 100 free (51.31). She also helped lead the 200 free relay to a top finish and the 200 medley relay to second place with strong 50 free relay splits. She recorded an unofficial anchor split of 22.82 in the medley and a leadoff split of 23.50 in the free relay.

May and the rest of the Gaucho swim team will be back in action this Saturday as they host UNLV in their final home swim meet of the 2009-10 season. Prior to the noon start, the UCSB seniors will be honored. All the action will take place at Campus Pool.
