Yamauchi Earns MPSF Swimmer of the Week Honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sophia Yamauchi of the women's swim team was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week it was announced by the conference on Wednesday morning. The freshman won three events during last Saturday's meet against Northern Arizona and UNLV.
Yamauchi captured first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.88) and the 200 breast (2:16.70), finishing almost nine seconds before the second place finisher in the latter event. The Santa Rosa, Calif. native then anchored the Gauchos' first-place 200 free relay with a 23.17 second split. The overall relay time was 1:34.76.
Yamauchi also helped the UCSB `A' 200 medley relay finish second, just .22 seconds after UNLV, with a time of 1:45.62. Her 50 breast split was 28.78.
The UCSB swim teams will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 29 when they host their final home meet of the 2010-11 season. The Gaucho men will face Pacific while the women will also face the Tigers and UC Davis. The action will begin with diving at 10 a.m. and the swim meet is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. at Campus Pool.
