SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara freshman Katie Stover was named the Big West Conference's Female Swimmer of the Week it was announced on Wednesday. Stover is the seventh Gaucho woman to take home the weekly honor this season.
Stover, who hails from Rocklin, Calif., helped the Gaucho women to dual wins over UC Davis and Pacific last weekend on the road. In the first meet of the week against the Aggies, Stover secured the top-finish in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:51.83. The freshman then took second in the 100 free with a mark of 52.58 before assisting the 400 free relay to first place in a time of 3:30.54.
She did not let up the following day; picking up three top finishes against Pacific. She got the meet rolling by helping the Gaucho 200 medley relay to first place with a time of 1:46.72. She then took first in the 50 free (24.16) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.00). Stover wrapped up the weekend by finishing second in the 200 free relay (3:34.59).
The Gaucho swim teams have completed 2009-10 dual meet action and are now preparing for the Big West Championships, which will be held Feb. 17-20 at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
