Katy Freeman's record-breaking performances helped UCSB dominate the field and earn its 12th conference crown at the 2008 Big West Swimming and Diving Championships in Long Beach.
Freeman, a junior from Concord, Calif. broke two school records and Big West meet records over the weekend while earning three league titles.
In her 100 breast victory, Freeman swam a 2:10.89, beating teammate Sara Nicponski¹s record from earlier in the year (1:01.56) and the 2002 meet record held by Pacific's Heidi Schmidt (1:01.32). Her time also automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships in Omaha, Neb.
Freeman also won the 200 breast in 2:10.89, again beating Nicponksi¹s record time (2:13.63). She shattered the meet record of 2:14.16 recorded in 2001. Freeman¹s time in the 200 breast gave her another automatic entry to the NCAA meet in March.
Freeman tallied her third Big West title in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 2:01.52 for the win over Ja-Neil Bragg of Pacific.
