Pat Cary Named Mid-Major Swimmer of the Year

Santa Barbara, Calif. - UCSB's Pat Cary has been named the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Swimmer of the Year it was announced Tuesday. In addition, Anne Marie May and Jennifer Schwalb, as well as Cary, were selected to the site's all-American team.
Cary, a senior, received the honor for his eighth-place performance in the 200 Butterfly at the 2007 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. The Big West Conference title-holder was fifth in the same event last year and is a three-time Mid-Major All-American.
Thirty-five additional swimmers and divers, including freshman May and senior Schwalb, were named to the Mid-Major All-American team on the basis of their qualification to the national meet. It was Schwalb's third appearance on the team.
Princeton's Alicia Aemisegger was tabbed the Swimmer of the Year on the women's side.
Institutions are designated as Mid-Major on the basis of their conference affiliation. Schools eligible for the Mid-Major designation do not come from one of the eight major NCAA Division I-A football conferences or award fewer than seven women's or five men's scholarships.
The Big West Conference led all leagues with eleven swimmers named to the team.
