SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Carling Seguso, a 2012 graduate of UCLA and a four-year member of the Bruins' women's tennis team, has been named Assistant Coach at UC Santa Barbara, head coach Simon Thibodeau announced Wednesday.

Seguso, a native of Bradenton, Fla., finished her senior season with 18 singles wins, helping UCLA to a runner-up finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships.  In her final season, Seguso climbed as high as No. 102 in the ITA Singles Rankings.  In doubles, she owned an 18-7 mark, including 13-4 in dual matches.

Seguso is no stranger to tennis success.  She is the daughter of four-time doubles Grand Slam Champion and top-ranked ATP doubles player Robert Seguso and former Canadian tennis star Carling Bassett-Seguso, who climbed as high as eighth in the WTA rankings.

"I am extremely pleased to have Carling Seguso join our staff as assistant coach," Thibodeau said.  "She was a member of the NCAA runner-up team last season and gained valuable experience throughout her college career.  Carling comes from a tennis family of champions and has been around world-class players and coaches her entire life.  She is very excited to have this opportunity to help lead the Gauchos to unprecedented heights."

In her first three years at UCLA, Seguso posted 57 overall singles matches.  In fact, as a junior in 2010-11, she dropped her first fall match and then reeled off 22-straight wins, finishing the year at 22-1.  In addition to her singles success, Seguso was an outstanding doubles player and finished her career with more than 50 doubles wins.

Seguso had a successful high school career at Bradenton Prep, where ranked her as a five-star recruit. Her achievements included: reaching the second round of singles at the Eddie Herr International Junior Championships in 2008 and taking the singles title at the 2008 Big Hitters Spring Sectionals.

Seguso graduated from UCLA with a BA in anthropology.
