SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After a tremendous turnaround season for the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team, April Scatliffe and Kiersten Meehan were both selected to the Big West All-Conference Team.

Scatliffe was named a member of the First Team in singles after putting up a 13-16 record competing exclusively in the No. 1 spot. In last weekend's Big West Championships, the sophomore swept Cal State Northridge's Maria Pistalu (All-Conference Second Team) 7-5, 6-3 to help UCSB to the 4-1 victory.

"This is a great honor for her," head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "She really stepped up in the number one spot this season, so this award is well deserved."

Meehan was named an Honorable Mention after she garnered a 17-10 record while playing primarily in the No. 2 draw. In her lone match at No. 1 this season, she swept her opponent 7-5, 7-5.

"This was no surprise as she beat most of her opponents at the number two," Thibodeau said. "She improved so much this year. She's always been very athletic, but she really stepped her game up mentally."

Scatliffe and Meehan are great players in their own right, but they proved to be Gauchos' dynamic duo this season in doubles. The two put together an 8-8 record to end the season, but were 7-2 in the No. 2.

"They were the best doubles team we had because of their good chemistry," Thibodeau said. "They play a very similar style of playing with an emphasis on good defense. Both of them should be proud of this accomplishment."

In Thibodeau's first year at the helm, the Gauchos finished the season with their best record since 2009 at 15-9, which was a vast improvement from their 11-14 mark last year.
