SANTA BARBARA, Calif. After splitting matches last weekend with a win over Loyola Marymount and a narrow loss to University of San Diego, the UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team (1-3) will be on the road once again this weekend. UCSB will have a pair of tough tests ahead of them as the team will face off against Pac-12 opponents, Washington State (5-1) and University of Washington (3-1).

Santa Barbara recorded its first win of the dual match season last Saturday with an impressive 4-3 win over LMU. With the shuffle in the doubles pairs, Coach Thibodeau and his squad performed well and ultimately earned the important doubles point. Despite the pressure from LMU in the singles matches, the Gauchos prevailed and escaped with a victory with the help of junior April Scatliffe, freshman Melissa Baker and sophomore Luisa Ortiz Candido all winning their singles matches.

One day after the team's victory over the Lions, the Gauchos faced nationally ranked No. 61 University of San Diego. UCSB hung tight and played extremely well as the team once again earned the doubles point. In the end, the Torreros came back and defeated the Gauchos, 4-3.

Battling through injuries, UCSB is continuing to showcase strong mental toughness and continuous growth. Shown through the solid results of the doubles pairs, the team's strong chemistry is becoming one of the key strengths of the squad.

Junior April Scatliffe played No. 1 singles last weekend while Stacy Yam jumped to No. 2 singles. The Gauchos will look to retain the confidence and display a high level of play against the Cougars and Huskies this weekend before returning home for next Sunday's match against University of Pacific.
