SANTA BARBARA, Calif. The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team (2-7, 1-1) will travel up to northern California this weekend for a pair of non-conference matches. After splitting last weekend of conference action with a loss against no. 57 UC Irvine and a close win against Cal State Fullerton, UCSB will look to string consecutive wins for the first time this season. The Gauchos will first take on San Jose State (4-8) on Saturday, March 1st at noon and then take on no. 64 Santa Clara University (4-3) on Sunday, March 2nd at noon.

Last weekend's conference action was no different as the team faced another pair of tough matches. Opening Big West conference play against nationally ranked Irvine, UCSB faced another quality opponent in the early parts of the dual match season. The 6-1 loss to Irvine was another example of the Gauchos just falling short as three of the six singles matches went to the third set tiebreak. Junior, April Scatliffe highlighted the day for the Gauchos as she won her action packed match on court no. 1.

Following the loss to Irvine, UCSB displayed its ability to bounce back as the team pulled off a 4-3 victory over Cal State Fullerton. The Gauchos capitalized on the important doubles point with victories on court 2 and 3. The singles matches were a mixed result, but in the end, UCSB added its first conference win of the season. Freshmen Kaiulani Boyer and Jaimee Gilbertson, and junior Stacy Yam all collected singles wins to push the team to victory.

After this weekend of action, UCSB will face off in conference action as the team will host UC Davis and no. 73 Fresno State. The Gauchos will host the Aggies on Saturday, March 8th at noon and then play against the Bulldogs on Sunday, March 9th at 10 a.m.
